Booking Through Thursday

What’s your favorite book that nobody else has heard of? You know, not Little Women or Huckleberry Finn, not the latest best-seller . . . whether they’ve read them or not, everybody “knows” those books. I’m talking about the best book that, when you tell people that you love it, they go, “Huh? Never heard of it?”

The Sanity Matinee by Michael Zagst
This is a well written, clever and sad novel about a young insurance salesman named Al Sprayberry. I have read this novel again and again and I always enjoy the comic wit of the author. I have also felt compassion for poor Al and his unlikely marriage, suburban life and boring job. How do you recommend this for someone to read when you bought it at a library sale back in 1990?

that sounds like an interesting book, maybe it will turn up in second hand shops?

I recommend The Baker's Boy by J.V. Jones. It is a fantasy novel, but it is not sanitized. This is also a humorous and adventurous book that is very visceral.
