The Symbol of War's Failure

Patrick and I, along with his parents, went to see "The Valley of Elah" this afternoon. Tommy Lee Jones, Charlize Theron and Susan Sarandon are the recognizable stars of the movie and the unknown stars leave just as big of an impact. "The Valley of Elah is the valley where David slayed Goliath. Unfortunately there is not a David that arises but several boys who are stuck in a situation that brings about the worse of some of the soldiers. I think it is fair to say this is an antiwar movie but it truly rises above others because we see the failure of this war on our children and other children in Iraq, Afghanistan and other war torn areas.

This is an anti-war movie, but not an anti Iraq war movie. War always places young men in situations that they have been told all their life are wrong. How each soldier handles this dichotomy differs, but we definitely need to recognize the emotional status of those coming back and be better prepared to deal with those suffering adverse reactions.
