Booking Through Thursday

Following up last week’s question about reading writing/grammar guides, this week, we’re expanding the question….
Scenario: You’ve just bought some complicated gadget home . . . do you read the accompanying documentation? Or not?
Do you ever read manuals?

How-to books?

Self-help guides?

Anything at all?

When I purchase a household item I always have the manual nearby and most usually I will need it for a reference. What really stinks is when I need it because something not too unusual has happened and I can't find it.
How-to books? Most definitely! I love gardening books, quilting, and knitting. And I'm not sure if this fallis in the "how-to" category but I LOVE cookbooks. This is such a significant problem I force myself to wait at least a day or two before I impulsivly purchase a cookbook. The only exception is if I am out of town. Then I throw budget caution to the wind and buy a local cookbook.
Self Help? No, I am completely hopeless with this genre!

I like the idea of a collection of local cook books. In the UK there is so much regional cooking that simply isn't well enough appreciated. this would be a lovely way of exploring new recipes and keeping old traditions alive.

I guess I just don't get the draw of the cookbook. I do love like local cookbook especially ones that are put out by a group or organization. I used to read a lot more cookbooks but now my cookbook is the whole internet. Sure, when I didn't have the internet I was constantly over at my neighbor's flipping through HER cookbooks.

I've got to admit I hadn't thought of cook books as "how-to" books either, but I'd say they certainly are!

Now when John Wayne rode in to town to tackle the cattle barons in their fancy Eastern Style ranches you never see anyone struggling with a flat pack manual. Yet mail order catalogues took off in the 19th century so did the fancy furniture arrive all made up? We need an answer!!
