Books and films both tell stories, but what we want from a book can be different from what we want from a movie. Is this true for you? If so, what’s the difference between a book and a movie?
I haven't read others' responses yet but I imagine they agree with mine. The movie is almost never ever as good as the book! After making that statement it's easier for me to list movies that are as good or better than the books. Please help me by adding to my list because I know I am missing some great books from some great movies! In no particular order:
"Gone With the Wind" --- great long movie and it was the book that hooked me into reading when I was 14 years old.
"Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" I haven't read the book but the movie had to have been better.
"Dune"--- Awesome imaginative book; great movie but still a lot was left out
"Lonesome Dove" --- The movie series was spectacular and the characters and dialogue were so similar to the book's.
"To Kill a Mockingbird" --- Fabulous book and fabulous movie
"Deliverance" --- James Dickey is poetic and the movie is amazing and horrific.

I could mention some obvious Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter references here, but will go with something more obscure.
How about "A Clockwork Orange" by Anthony Burgess?
I can't be any help here. I seldom watch movies. Give me books any day.

Cold Mountain, but only because I loathed the book.
